Fantastic Friday!

We started our morning with an assembly for the Caring Award, congratulations to all the winners!  We also had a few students present their Show & Share for the blend sounds of the week.


Inquiry into Language
The SK's were focused on their spelling test for the month of March.

UOI
We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  The students enjoyed learning about life guards with a video that focused on what their responsibilities are, how they help in the community and water safety.  The SK's worked with partners with an I Spy activity sheet, they had to circle people in the picture that were not following water safety rules.  The students also created life guard puppets using, paper bags, construction paper and crayons.

Daily 5
The students were engaged in Literacy Centers with partners today.

Math
The SK's continued learning about Canadian money (coins).  Today the students reviewed the dime and quarter.  The students worked with partners on an activity sheet and using manipulative.

Music

Dress down Thursday!

Inquiry into Language
The SK's practiced the sound and formation of the blend sound ure.  The SK's practiced reading ure words on the board and discussing the meaning of each word.  The students worked on printing ure words and placing them in alphabetical order with an activity sheet.

UOI
We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  The students listened to a book about construction workers.  We discussed what responsibilities they have, how they help in the community and what tools and uniforms they wear and use.  The SK's worked on sentence writing and created paper doll construction workers of themselves.

Daily 5
The students were engaged in Literacy Centers with partners today.

Math
The SK's continued learning about Canadian money (coins).  Today the students learned more about the quarter.  The students were taught how to spell quarter, the value and the images that differentiate it from other coins.  The students role played shopping at a farmers market using the pretend quarters and food, they had to purchase food depending on the price using the money they had.

Wonderful Wednesday!

Inquiry into Language
The SK's practiced the sound and formation of the blend sound ure.  The Students brainstormed words that had the ure blend sound and practiced printing in their booklets.  They also took turns reading the words on the board.

UOI
We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  The students were really interested in learning more about police officers, we reviewed what we already learned and listen to a story.  The students worked on a police officer hat and badge activity.

The students were engaged in Literacy Centers with partners today.

Math
The SK's continued learning about Canadian money (coins).  Today the students reviewed the penny, nickel and dime and worked with partners on a Money Booklet.

Music

Thankful Tuesday!

Inquiry into Language
The SK's practiced the sound and formation of the blend sound air.  The Students brainstormed words that had the air blend sound and practiced printing in their booklets.  They also worked with partners and worked on a fill in the blanks worksheet with partners.

UOI
We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  We started our morning with a question and answer meeting with Ms. Hayward, so that we can learn more about Librarians and how they help in the community.  The students had a lot of questions to ask and Ms. Hayward did a great job answering them all!  The SK's also worked on a Librarian sentence activity and created their own bookmarks.

The students were engaged in Literacy Centers with partners today.

Math
The SK's continued learning about Canadian money (coins).  Today the students were introduced to the Dime.  We talked about how to spell "Dime," the different pictures that are on a it and its value.  The students worked on practicing counting by 10's with an activity sheet.

Inquiry into Language
The SK's had a sharing circle this morning and each student had the opportunity to share one thing that they did or went during their March Break.  We wrote down our ideas on the board and practiced our sentence writing skills by writing about it in our Journals.

UOI
We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  The students brainstormed and shared their ideas about garabage collectors.  They answered questions such as, how do they help in the community and what are their responsibilities?  The SK's were also engaged in a sorting activity where each student had to classify disposal that was garbage, compost or recycling.

The students were engaged in Literacy Centers with partners today.

Math
The SK's continued learning about Canadian money (coins).  Today the students reviewed the penny and nickel with a matching activity and worked with partners on a activity sheet.

Happy Friday!

We were all dressed on green to celebrate for St. Patrick's Day!  The students started their morning with a sharing circle and talked about where and what they were doing for the March Break.  The SK's also worked on a leprechaun writing activity, "How to catch a leprechaun" and a shamrock art activity.  We had reading buddies with the grade 4's, had fun with a house game and ended the day clearing out our cubbies.

I hope that everyone has a safe and fun March Break! We will see you all back on Monday. March 25th =)

Reminders:
-Spelling test for the month of March is on Friday, March 29th.
-In class written summative (Community Helpers), will be from April 4th-5th.
-Fire fighter and fire truck visit will be on Friday, April 5th.
-Community Helper summative presentations will take place April 11th and 12th.
