Anit-bullying Day!

We started our morning with a school assembly for Anti-bullying Day.  We watched an informative video and participated in an anti-bullying activity where each student got to write down a positive message on a pink shirt sheet.

Inquiry into Language
The SK's practiced their writing skills with an anti-bullying activity, students had to write positive sentences about how to be a "buddy" to their peers.  They also worked on a "bully" or "buddy" sorting activity.

UOI
We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  The students listened to a read aloud that introduced the students about how police officers help within the community.  The students also worked on a reading and search activity, they had to read a paragraph that focuses on the role of a police officer.  Students read the paragraph and had to find the words on the word cards in the story.

Daily 5
The students enjoyed reading with the grade 4 students and Library time with Mrs. Hayward.

Math
The SK's continued learning more about place value (ones and tens). The students wanted another place value challenge!  The students worked in groups again to show different values of ones and tens using snap cubes.

Snowy Wednesday!

The SK's did not have Music class today due to the weather.


Inquiry into Language
The SK's learned that the ow blend makes two different sounds, we brainstormed words on the board.  The students worked on the formation and sound of the blend ow with their printing journals and worked with partners and were engaged with a ow activity sheet.

UOI
We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  The students watched a video and had a read a loud circle that focused on the role and responsibilities of a paramedic.  The students also worked on an ambulance art activity, using a variety of materials.

Daily 5
The students were engaged in Literacy Centers with partners today.

Math
The SK's continued learning more about place value (ones and tens). I challenged the students to work on teams and asked them to show me using snap cubes, a number under tens and ones (example: 12, 23, 34).  The students also worked on an activity sheet to reinforced what they had learned.

Thankful Tuesday!


Inquiry into Language
The students worked on the formation and sound of the blend ur with a sentence activity.  We first brainstormed simple sentences using ur words and the SK's worked with partners to complete 4 more sentences on their own.

UOI
We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  The students watched a video about how to be a safe crossing guard, we also shared our observations in with a sharing circle.  The SK's worked on a writing and art activity and role played during center time.

The SK's continued learning more about place value (ones and tens).  I challenged the students to show me their understanding, by using snap cubes and asking them to show different values of ones and tens.  They also worked together and practiced with an activity sheet.

We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  The students watched a video about a young girl going to visit the doctors office.  The SK's worked on a doctor cutting and pasting activity and a writing activity.

The SK's continued learning more about place value (one's and t.  We were engaged with an introduction activity that had the students count by 10's using counters.  The students also worked with partners on an activity sheet.

We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  Today we reviewed the community helpers we learned more about this week with a sharing circle and the students worked on a "When I grow up..." writing activity.

Inquiry into Language
The students worked on the formation and sound of the blend or with an activity sheet and brainstormed words and names that has the or blend.  The students worked with partners on a or activity sheet, students had to determine which words were "real" or "nonsense" words.

UOI
We continued our UOI on Community Helpers!  We listened to a read aloud about Doctors, it taught us the responsibilities of doctors and how many years of school needed to become one.  The SK's worked with partners with a cut and paste activity, they had to determine which tools they use in their medical bag.  The SK's also enjoyed role playing being doctors in centers with small groups.

The students were engaged in Literacy Centers with partners today.

Math
The SK's reviewed what they learned about time by the hour and half hour to prepare for the test on Friday.
