It's Friday!!!!

Orange t-shirt Day was a success!  Ms. Hayward stopped by today to read a story titled Lost Words.  It focused on a little girl and her grandfather who are both Aboriginal.  She tries to reteach her grandfather their language, because he had lost it as a young child growing up in the residential schools.  We had a sharing circle and a few of the students shared their sympathy for the grandfather.

Inquiry into Language
The SK's did a great job with their first Spelling Test!  They were all very excited and did an amazing job sitting quietly during the test.

Gym
Ms. Yustin had Fun Friday gross motor activities for the students today.

French
Mlle. Hou continued to teach the students about farm animals in French.

Unit of Inquiry
We combines our UOI with Art today, each student had the opportunity to make a flower using a variety of materials.

Music
Mr. Flower's had the students participate in a variety of songs and continued to teach them simple music notes.

Daily 5
The students enjoyed Literacy Centers today and were engaged in groups.

Math
The SK's had fun estimating how many candies were inside a jar!  We recorded our estimations on a class chart and worked on an activity sheet.

Reminders:
-Chudleigh's Apple Farm trip will take place October 15th.  Students are to wear gym clothes on that day.
-Uniform shoes: black shoes are to be worn with all navy socks and gym shoes are to be worn with all white socks.
-International Day is on October 4th.  Parents are welcome to visit the classrooms to view the presentations from 2:30 to 3:15 pm.  Our class will be learning more about and presenting the country of Jamaica! Please feel free to bring in any books, pictures, clothing, toys or food that we can use for our presentation.  Thank you again to those who have been bringing in items =)
-Friday, October 5th is a PD day, the school will be closed.

Terry Fox Thursday!

We had so much fun running this morning for our annual Terry Fox Run!  Thank you to everyone who donated, we raised over $4, 000!!!

Hello SK parents! Thank you to those who have been bringing in items for International Day.  Students have been learning more about the country Jamaica.

Inquiry into Language
The SK's practiced their printing skills in their Journals, each student had to write three words that began with the letter n.  We also listened too and did the actions to the Jolly Phonics song:Jolly Phonics Song letter Nn

Gym
We did not have Gym today with Ms. Yustin, because she was taking part with the Terry Fox Run.

French
Mlle. Hou continued to teach the students about items around the classroom in French.

Unit of Inquiry
We continued learning more about parts of a plant and its functions with a Journal activity.  We practiced printing words that related to plants.  The students also practiced their cutting and pasting skills.

Daily 5
The students enjoyed Literacy Centers today and were engaged in groups.

Math
The SK's worked on representing 10 using counting cubes and worked on an activity sheet.  We sat together of on the carpet, which was a nice break from table work.

Wonderful Wednesday!

Letters of the week: i & n

We started our day watching a video about Terry Fox, to prepare us for our school Terry Fox Run tomorrow.  Thank you to those who have donated for the cause, we will still be accepting donations tomorrow.  The SK's also had fun showing off their clothes today with a fashion show! Each student had the opportunity to tell the class something special about what they were wearing and the rest of the class participated by saying nice things about what they were wearing.  To get us ready for Friday's Orange t-shirt Day, everyone in the class got to decorate an orange strip of paper that will be used to make a school link.  The orange link is to represent that" all children matter".

Inquiry into Language
The SK worked on the formation, sound and words that began with the letter Nn.  We listened and did the actions to the letter Nn Jolly Phonics song and practiced printing the upper, lower case letter and short word that began with the letter n.

Gym
Ms. Yurin was back today, she had the students engaged in team building gross motor activities.

French
Mlle. Hou began teaching the students farm animals in French.

Unit of Inquiry
We continued to learn more about plants and its function with a matching activity.  We also shared our ideas in a class sharing circle.

Music
Mr. Flower's had the students participate in a variety of songs and continued to teach them simple music notes.

Daily 5
The students read books with a partner or in a group.  I challenged the students and asked them to look for words that began with the letter n.

Math
The SK's continued to learn more about estimating.  The students had to estimate how many red or green "apples" I had in my bag and worked on an activity in their Math books.

Ms. Yurin was a way with the school Golf team, the students had Gym with Ms. Bancud.

French
Mlle. Hou continued to teach the students about items around the classroom in French.

Unit of Inquiry
We continued learning more about parts of a plant and its functions.  The students worked on a plant booklet, which we all practiced reading together and had fun planting our own plants!

Daily 5
The students enjoyed Literacy Centers today and were engaged in groups.

Math
The SK's worked on estimation, we worked together as a class using manipulative and worked individually in our Math books.

Happy Monday!

Letters of the week: i & n

I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend!  The weather is getting colder outside, just a reminder for students to dress accordingly and to please label everything!  Our first SK Spelling Test will take place Friday, September 28th.

Inquiry into Language
The SK worked on the formation, sound and words that begin with the letter Ii.  We listened and did the actions to the letter Ii Jolly Phonics song and wrote three words in our Journals.

We started a new focus of our Down on the Farm unit, this week we will learn ore about plants!  Today we shared what we already know about parts of a plant and worked on a matching activity.

Music
Mr. Flower's had the students participate in a variety of songs and continued to teach them simple music notes.

Daily 5
The students enjoyed our weekly Reading Buddies with Ms. Arandia's grade 4 class.

Math
The SK's continued to learn more about representing numbers from 10 to 20.  The students participated in a class game using manipulative and worked in their Math books.
