A very cold Monday!

It was very cold outside today, so the students enjoyed some indoor activities for recess.

Inquiry into Language
We continued practicing the formation and sound of the blend sound igh.  The students worked on an activity sheet with partners that helped the students classify short words with the "igh" blend sound.  The students also had to determine which words were real words and which were nonsense words.  Here is the link to the song:igh song

French

UOI
The SK's started our Winter unit that correlates with the Seasons unit.  We started our Winter Senses booklet and brainstormed different things that we see outside that reminds us of winter.  We played an I Spy game, looking out our classroom window to search for winter theme things outside.  We also recorded what we saw and practiced our sentence writing skills in our Winter booklets.

Daily 5
The students were engaged in Literacy Centers, with books and puzzles.

Math
The SK's reviewed what they already know about subtraction.  Today we played a game and practiced with a work sheet our subtraction number line skills.

Reminders:
-The grade 1 students will be holding a Farmers Market inside their classrooms on January 24th & 25th to raise money for Sick Kids Hospital and as their summative project for their unit.  Students may bring in change on that day to purchase healthy snacks.
-Bake sale: Tuesday, January 29th & Wednesday, January 30th.
-Casual day is on Thursday, January 31st.
-Book Fair is from February 4th to 8th.
-Pancake Day is on Tuesday, February 5th.
-100th day of School will be held on Wednesday, February 13th.  Students will dress up like they are 100 years old on that day!
-Spirit day is on February 14th, students may dress up in Valentine's Day colours (red, white, pink).
-The school will be closed for a PD day and Family day on February 15th & 18th.
-Bake Sake: February 26th & 27th.
