Terrific Thursday!

We started our morning visiting Mr. Foster's Market, the students enjoyed exploring what healthy snacks were available and purchased some for their snack.

Inquiry into Language
The students continued to practice the formation and sound of the blend OA.  The SK's brainstormed words that had the OA blend and practiced their sentence printing skills with a journal writing activity.

Inquiry into Math
The students continued learning more about single digit subtraction equations and strategies.  The students worked with partners using manipulatives and white boards to answer a subtraction word puzzle.

Unit of Inquiry
We continued learning more about the season Winter and worked on a hot chocolate mug art activity.

Gym
Ms. V was away assisting the grade 5's on their ski trip today.

Wonderful Wednesday!

We started our day with Reading Buddies with the grade 4 students.

Inquiry into Language
The students were introduced to the formation and sound of the blend OA.  The SK's worked on their printing skills in their booklets.  The students had the opportunity to practice their poems for the Oral Competition coming up soon.

Inquiry into Math
The students continued learning more about single digit subtraction equations and strategies.  The students continued to learn more about the number line strategy using the large number line in the classroom to help answer subtraction questions.  The students also practiced with partners with an activity sheet.

Unit of Inquiry
We continued learning more about the season Winter and worked on a sentence writing activity.

Gym
Ms. V was away assisting the grade 5's on their ski trip today.

Mr. Foster’s Farmers Market and Ms. Gandy’s Groceries

As part of their summative assessment the grade one classes have decided to open a market to complement their organization unit. The market will include fruits, vegetables, drinks and other healthy snacks. It will be held in rooms 12 and 18. The market will take place all day Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, January 24th. All profits made will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.



Important Dates:
  • January 29th-Casual Day & January Spelling Test
  • February 13th-100th Day of School & Spirit Day (students may dress in Valentine's Day colours/theme)
  • February 14th-Valentine's Day & PD Day (No school).

Tremendous Tuesday!


Inquiry into Language
The students continued to practice the formation and sound of the blend IGH.  The SK's worked with partners and worked on a matching activity sheet.  The students had the opportunity to practice their poems for the Oral Competition coming up soon.

Marvelous Monday!

We had one more student to present their planet for their Soaring Through Space presentation, we also went to visit Ms. Hughes grade 2 class for their gallery.

Inquiry into Language
The students were introduced to the formation and sound of the blend IGH.  The SK's worked with partners to sound out and spell words that begin and end with IGH words as a class on the board and worked on their printing books.

Inquiry into Math
The students continued learning more about single digit subtraction equations and strategies.  The students worked with partners using manipulatives and practiced in their Math books.

Unit of Inquiry
We continued out Winter theme and brainstormed ideas to complete the sentence: "My snowman melted because..."  The students completed the sentence with a writing activity and used a variety of art materials to create their melted snowmen.

Fun Friday!

The students did a great job presenting their Show & Share for the blend sound "SH."


Inquiry into Language
The students continued to practice the formation and sound of the blend SH.  The SK's worked with partners to sound out and spell words that begin and end with SH words with an activity sheet.

Inquiry into Math
The students continued learning more about single digit subtraction equations and strategies.  The students worked with partners using white boards and took turns challenging each other with subtraction questions.  The students also practiced their subtraction skills using their Math books.

Unit of Inquiry
We continued out Winter theme and listened to a read a loud story about a snowman that was titled The Sneezy Snowman.  The SK's worked on a sequencing activity sheet to show their understanding.
