Happy Monday!

We started our morning with a little fashion show, the students who dressed for the book fair fantasy theme had the opportunity to talk about their costumes.

Inquiry into Language
The students presented their poems to all the SK classes today and worked on the formation and sound of the blend oo.  The students worked their printing skills on their printing booklets and worked with a partner with a reading dice game.  Here is the song:oo song

UOI
We started a new unit today that was focused on Community Helpers!  We brainstomred and shared what we already know about community helpers.  Each student also shared what they would like to be when they grow up and worked with partners to fill out a "When I Grow Up" graphing sheet.

Daily 5
The students were engaged in Literacy Centers with partners today.

Math
The SK's reviewed what they learned about time by the hour.  We started a new lesson on time by the half hour, we used the big classroom clock and mini clocks to practice.  The students also worked on a practice worksheet.

Music

Reminders:
-100th day of School will be held on Wednesday, February 13th.  Students will dress up like they are 100 years old on that day!
-Spirit day is on February 14th, students may dress up in Valentine's Day colours (red, white, pink).
-The school will be closed for a PD day and Family day on February 15th & 18th.
-Bake Sake: February 26th & 27th.
-Pancake Day is on March 5th.

We made it to Friday! Yay!

We started our day with a few Show & Share presentations, the students did a great job talking about the blend sound ai.  We did not have French class due too Mlle. Hou covering for Ms. King's class.  The SK's ended their day visiting the Book Fair.


Inquiry into Language/UOI
We combined our UOI unit with our language today.  The students worked on sentence writing using "word bank" winter themed words.  We brainstormed together as a class, creating simple sentences and using the words provided.  I also encouraged the students to create their own sentences.

Daily 5
The students were engaged in Literacy Centers with partners today and Reading Buddies with the grade 4 class.

Math
The SK's continued practicing their time by the hour recognition and printing skills.  We started by engaging with the Splat game we played yesterday, the students were excited to do it again.  They also worked with partners to complete an activity sheet.  The students had to draw both the minute (big) hand and the hour (small) hand on each clock that matches the time provided.

Reminders:
-Due to the short week because of the unsafe weather, the Book Fair will be extended to Monday, February 11th.
-On Monday, February 11th, students may come dressed as their favorite fantasy or book character to help celebrate the theme of the Book Fair.  If students would like to participate, they must bring in $2.
-100th day of School will be held on Wednesday, February 13th.  Students will dress up like they are 100 years old on that day!
-Spirit day is on February 14th, students may dress up in Valentine's Day colours (red, white, pink).
-The school will be closed for a PD day and Family day on February 15th & 18th.

Welcome back & happy Thursday!

We had a very busy morning with the Oral Competition this morning!  Congratulations the all the students who made it the finals and who won.  I am still in the process of transferring the recorded poems by the students, I had recruited my husband to help! Fingers crossed!  The SK's did not have gym class with Ms. Yustin, due to her covering Ms. Smith's class for the Oral Competition.  Please continue to bring in your re-registration packages, our class made it to second place!  Keep up the great work, we are on our way to winning a class pizza party!

Happy Monday!

We started our busy morning with our in class oral presentations, all the students did a fantastic job!  We also had a chance to preview the Book Fair and make a wish list that was sent home.  Students may purchase books tomorrow.

Happy Friday!

We started our day with an awards assembly for the month of January the Risk Taker award was handed out, congratulations to the winners!  We also had some students present their show & share for the blend sounds ng & th.

Inquiry into Language
The students practiced their poems today and their public speaking skills in front of the class to prepare them for the in class competition on Monday.  The students did a great job

The students worked on their sentence writing skills today, with a snowman/lady writing activity.  The students had to write in order of sequence, how you would build a snowman/lady.
