Happy Space Day!

The SK's had so much fun with Space Day today!  The students did a fantastic job presenting their planets and I can not wait to see the rest of the presentations tomorrow.

Inquiry into Language
We continued practicing the formation and sound of the blend sound sh.  The students worked on printing upper/lower case "sh" and had to classify short words that begin and end with "sh" with an activity sheet.  Here is the link to the Jolly Phonics song:sh song

Gym
Ms. Yustin was away sick today, we were engaged in gross motor movement with Go Noddle videos in class.  Here is a link to her blog:http://sjaayustin.blogspot.com/

French

UOI
The SK's began their Space summative presentations today.

Daily 5
The students were engaged in Literacy Centers, with books and puzzles. 

Music

Math
The SK's had a lot of fun engaged in a subtraction bowling activity, using ten frames.  The students had to record their answers on an activity sheet.

Reminders:
-Please sign Math tests and return if you have not already.
-Our class trip to the Science Center is this Friday, January 18th.  Students are to be at school by 9:00 am.
-Space summative presentations will take place Wednesday, January 16th and Thursday, January 17th. 
-Bake sale: Tuesday, January 29th & Wednesday, January 30th.
-Casual day is also on Wednesday, January 30th.

Hello SK parents!

We will be having Space Day tomorrow! Students may come in dressed in space attire or wearing clothing that is within the space theme.  We will also be having our space summative presentations tomorrow and on Thursday.

Inquiry into Language

Ms. Yustin continued their gross motor activities focused on yoga and gymnastics.

French

UOI
The SK's had a sharing circle about the planets that they will be presenting this week, each student had the opportunity to share something that they learned about their planet .  We also made a solar system crown, placing the planets in order from the sun.

Daily 5
The students were engaged in Literacy Centers, with books and puzzles.  We also enjoyed Reading buddies with the grade 4 students.

Library
The students returned their library books and listened to a story from Ms. Hayward.

Math
The SK's reviewed what they already learned about Subtraction and the strategies they learned.  The students worked with partners on an activity sheet.

-Parents who have not yet handed in permission forms for the class trip to the Science Center  in Friday, January 18th, please do so by Monday, January 14th.

Happy Friday!

It was nice to have my class back again!  We started our day with a sharing circle and talked about some of the things that were similar or different about grade one and SK.  The students enjoyed themselves overall yesterday!

Inquiry into Language
We continued practicing the formation and sound of the blend sound qu.  The students worked on printing upper/lower case "qu" and short words that begin with the blend sound.  Here is the link to the Jolly Phonics song:qu song.  The students also worked on a space themed word search for a challenge.

Gym
Ms. Yustin continued their gross motor activities focused on yoga and gymnastics.

French

The SK began working on the rough copy and good copy of their summative space assignment.

The students were engaged in Literacy Centers, with books and puzzles.

Math
The SK's were introduced to our new Subtraction unit.  We began with learning the different strategies we could use to show our work and help us answer subtraction equations, a few students volunteered to demonstrate watch strategy to the class:
1. Using pictures
2. Using our fingers
3. Using a number line
4. Crossing out and counting what is left
The students worked in groups using manipulatives and focused on answering questions on their Math books.

Year a Head Day!

We had a lot of fun and learned a lot being an SK today!  The students did a great job following the SK routine and showing how well they can listen in the class.

Inquiry into Language
To get to know the students better, we had a fun game with the alphabet ball.  The students had to pass the ball around and when each student caught the ball, they had too say their name, the letter it begins with and find it on the alphabet ball.  We also practiced the formation of each beginning letter of our names using play dough.

Gym
Ms. Yustin continued their gross motor activities focused on yoga and gymnastics.

French

UOI
The SK's enjoyed listening to a read a loud story titled Frosty's Friends, and created their own snowman or snowlady using construction paper and crayons.

Math
The students practiced their number recognition skills, numbers from 1 to 10 using manipulatives and worked with partners with a counting activity sheet.

Wonderful Wednesday!

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a relaxing holiday.  I am excited to begin a new year with my SK's =)  We started our morning with a sharing circle, each student had the opportunity to share what they did during the Christmas break.

The SK's focused on the formation, sound and brainstormed words that begin with the blend sound qu.  The students practiced reading the short words on the board and practiced printing the short words and created a simple sentence on their own on an activity sheet.

The SK's reviewed what we already learned about planets and space.  We talked in more detail about the summative assignment and worked on the rough copy or good copy of the written section.

The students focused on a pre-assessment Subtraction test.

Reminders:
-Year a Head Day is on Thursday, January 10th, 2019.  Our class will be visiting Ms. Gandy's class as grade one students for the day.  Students are to come to school and place their belongings in their cubbies, Ms. Gandy   (room 28)will pick up the students in the gym in the morning.
-Space Day will be on Wednesday, January 16th.
-Summative Assignment presentations will be held on Wednesday, January 16th and Thursday, January 17th.  i will send an email on Monday to let you know which students will be presenting on which day.
-Class trip to the Science Center is on Friday, January 18th.  Students are to be at school by 9:00 am and pack a lunch and snack to take with them.  If there are any parent volunteers, please let me know and have your vulnerable police record check done before the trip date.
